Inundation Modeling &
Flood Simulation

Point3Data can provide lidar DTMs and close-contour topo mapping products for the generation of accurate and detailed flood risk and inundation threat reports. Either standard or high accuracy lidar DEMs are used in the production of hydro-flattened and hydro-enforced DTMs meeting USGS specs.

These are used for baseline analysis, with assessment reports typically containing 1 or 2-ft topo products and form the foundation for FEMA-approved Hazard Mitigation Plans. They can also be used for:

  • Riparian easement assessment
  • Floodplain restoration planning
  • Bank stability analysis
  • Fluvial Erosion Hazard Area (FEH) delineation & assessment
  • Point3Data's approach to inundation modeling involves turning large amounts of unstructured flow, tidal, rainfall, storm surge and elevation data into comprehensive Flood Simulation Reports, that can be used to predict high-water levels with a defined level of probability. These can be used directly by a number of agencies for a variety of direct actions including:

  • Management of flood prevention & flood control activities
  • Emergency management coordination and prioritization during evacuations
  • Risk assessment for insurance underwriters
  • Modeling, Simulation & Analysis Services

    Inundation Modeling & Lidar

One of the initial applications for lidar data, Point3Data evolves inundation and flood simulation into reports that provide all stakeholders critical information required for direct action.
